SILAS Forum Description

Our Quadra Granville Seniors Group and the South Granville Seniors Centre are sponsoring a free forum on Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Seniors; an issue that has been identified as a major concern in our society causing significant negative effects on health, health care costs and personal well-being.

Eddy Elmer, Master in Gerontology, was the primary researcher in the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Coastal Health’s Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Seniors Project (SILAS). Eddy will present his findings and his recommendations.

Representatives of the federal and city governments are participating along with community support groups, seniors and concerned families. The presentation will be followed by round table discussions where the audience can share their views and explore solutions.
